Hi Derlaine, I think your work is absolutely amazing and I'm so happy I stumbled across your blog! And no disrespect but I was wondering if red bubble was safe, seeing as how I've never heard of it. I really would like one of your shirts! Thank you for your time ^_^
Hi fortheloveofskittlez! Thank you for your support <3 Yes Redbubble is safe, they’ve been around for many years and many people have bought stuff there before and I’ve bought some stuff from them as well.
Based on the first post, I decided to start up this blog. Basically, you can submit any story about how fandom affected you, your life, why it’s important to you. The point is to show that fandom is not just a frivolous, meaningless hobby to some people who are in it. Whether it’s about the…
lil' loki arrived today: it's super adorable, posted a pic of it on my blog. ^ ^ thx heaps. do you plan to create more characters pillows in future? like LOTR or the hobbit ones..
Hi Avoca, Thanks for your support! I am so glad!! I couldn’t find the picture on your blog! You might have to show me the direct link. I have at least one more planned hehe. Did you want the hot dwarves as pillows? Again thank you for your kind words and support!
I love how beautiful Loki is with that long hair in your style... I wish my hair could do that. In love with your artwork, considering buying that Lady Loki print now I have a card and money!! I really look up to you as an artist and I hope to be as good as you some day! Oh, would you be so kind as to show us your process? (As in, how you might sketch and colour a piece)? Thank you very much in advance <3
Hi reilly, thank you for your kind words. I went back through my blog and tagged my older posts with process shots just for you. http://derlaine.tumblr.com/tagged/process I tend to go to painting as fast as i can and don’t really spend a lot of time on meticulous line art because I tend to make a lot of mistakes doing line art. It’s just a personal preference, some people enjoy doing line art and other people don’t like painting, you just have to figure out what you enjoy doing.
I just wanted to say my Lady Loki print arrived today and it's lovely and thank you! Also thank you for the smaller Loki print, he's very lovely too. Hope you have a fantastic New Years and the new year brings you everything you could want. xx
Awesome! Thank you for the kind note, I love hearing about where my stuff ends up!! Hope it looks lovely on your wall and Happy New Year to you too!!
Are you ok with people imitating your drawing style? I want to start drawing fanart someday but am sadly lacking in skills. Since I love your art I might reference it to help me along, but I realize that's pretty close to copying so I don't want to be stepping on your toes.
Hi mathmusicreading! Thanks for your interest, i am very flattered! I never really thought I had a “style”! I think it’s important to start speaking with a voice of your own as soon as you can. It’s okay (and inevitable) to be influenced by others and we all have artists we study a lot. I have art that imitates other artists like James Jean, and to be honest, it’s not really that satisfying to have something that looks like someone else drew it.I really wish I started finding my own voice a long time ago.
And really, that is why I keep drawing now, to try and dig around inside myself and find something within myself. I’m nowhere near a really satisfying place, but I step closer everyday and that keeps me going. It’s scary to make mistakes and feel like you lack skills, but I’d rather make my own mistakes and own them (and yes I really should do more original art :p)
Your art of Loki trying to eat a turkey at a Yule/Christmas(?) is a bit amusing, considering in the myths Loki won an eating competition against a fire giant. His appetite is arguably greater than Volstagg's.
I would also become really good at eating competitions if my dad made me eat 5 whole cows every night i am just sayin’
(in all seriousness, i didn’t know about the myth at the time of drawing and was just “artist gonna art”, that’s cool to know about the myth now!!)
My mom got me your Ugh!! Peasants!!! Loki shirt for Christmas. It's amazing! I wear it under my jacket, then I go around and flash people and attempt to duplicate his face making the most awkward ugh noise. It is possibly the most awesome thing ever. P.S. Your artwork is amazing and I love ALL OF IT. <3 Thank you.
hi crazyraryray!! aa that’s so awesome!! haha i would love to see your imitation of the ugh face!!! oh maybe i should hold a competition……thank you so much for your support!! and is that you meeting twiddles in your icon?
My friend got me an Ugh! Peasants! shirt for Christmas, and it finally came! (a tad late, but whatever) When she called me and told me I was so excited I almost cried. I just have to thank you for making your fantastic art accessible for people to have. Can't wait to wear it!
Omg awesome!!! Show it off to all the peasants !! I am so glad!!
